Kattprat

katt subst. ~en ~er
ORDLED: katt-en
HIST.: sedan äldre fornsvensk tid; fornsv. katter; gemens. germ. ord; jfr senlat. cattus 'katt'

The world os so full od a number of things,
I 'm sure we should all be as happy as kings.

A kitten curled on its side asleep, front paws tucked up under its chin
Happy ThoughtThe world is so full of a number of MiceI’m sure that we all should be happy and nice.

Det står inte uttryckligen att författaren själv illustrerat sin bok, men eftersom han var såväl  illustratör som författare, så förutsätter  jag att det är så.
A kitten with its eyes closed, ignoring the two mice laughing behind it
Education

When People think that Kittens play,It’s really quite the other way.For when they chase the Ball or BobbinThey learn to catch a Mouse or Robin.
The Kitten, deaf to Duty’s call,Who will not chase the bounding ball,A hungry Cathood will enjoy,The scorn of Mouse and Bird and Boy.

Musmys

The Erratic Rat
0
There was a ridiculous Rat
Who was awfully puffy and fat.
“I’ll carry,” he said,
“This plate on my head,
’Twill answer in place of a hat.”
0
And then he remarked with a frown,
“I suppose that I must have a gown;
I’ll make me a kilt
Of this old crazy-quilt,
To wear when I’m going to town.

“And of course, though the weather is warm,
It may be there’ll come up a storm;
An umbrella I’ll make
Of a caraway cake,
It’ll match with my whole uniform.

And I’ll carry a bottle of ink
In case I should wish for a drink;
And this flat-iron so sweet
I’ll take with me to eat,
And now I am ready, I think.”
